This week’s Music Monday entry is from UK rapper Loski featuring Nigerian artist Davido.
The song is taken from Loski’s new project: “Music, Trial & Trauma: A Drill Story” which was released last week Friday. The track was originally released on Loski’s 2017 mixtape “Call me Loose” and it originally featured Bis.
I really enjoyed the song and especially DaVido’s switch in flow which was really surprising. Check the song our below!
Happy Monday everyone!! Hope you all had a great weekend! Good news is that I should be coming out with a few more posts this week! Even better news is that I have something in the pipeline that I will be announcing soon!
For now! Today’s #MusicMonday pick is a song that I’ve been playing non stop!! DaVido dropped his latest album on Friday called “A Better Time“. As soon as I heard this track, I fell in love with it! This is one of my favourite Nicki Minaj features in a long time. One thing I do love about DaVido is that despite his many American collab, he never compromises his sound. If anything, the featured artists always somehow tune in to his sound more. I liked the singing Nicki in this track as well as the usual rapping. Both artists worked very well together, I would be down for hearing more music from the both of them.
In terms of lyrics though, I wouldn’t say this song would win content of the year. DaVido’s lyrics are hilarious but I guess with this song it’s more the feeling of the song you fall in love with!
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! Today’s #MusicMonday entry is a new song from Giggs’ latest ‘Now or Never’ album. The song features Dave and is called “Straight Murder (Giggs & David)“.
This is the second track the two of them have released together. The first being ‘Peligro‘ from Giggs’ ‘Wamp 2 Dem‘ EP. Both tracks have something very noticeable in common as both allow Giggs and Dave to have their own minutes to share their bars separately. Instead of a rap battle/collab which usually happens with features, they both give each-other space and take it in turns to take the spotlight. ‘Straight Murder‘ is split into 2 with Dave taking the first section. Personally, this has to be Dave’s best featured verse. He completely dominated the track and held his own against a legend as big as Giggs!
Happy Monday everyone and belated happy new month! I hope you all had a great weekend! I pray this month is a month of blessings for us all!
Today’s Music Monday isn’t really that new in terms of release but it’s new for me! I recently stumbled upon the artist Blxst and really enjoyed his music. I discovered he had released this EP ‘No Love Lost‘ a few months ago (September 4th – my birthday coincidentally!!!). My favourite songs from the project were: “Overrated”, “Wrong or Right” and “Be Alone”.
Fun Fact: The song “Overrated” uses a sample from one of my favourite singers Donell Jones’ song “This Luv“. Check out my previous post on him below:
This weeks #MusicMonday is from my current favourite US artist Yung Bleu!!! Yung Bleu recently released his EP ‘Love Scars: The 5 Stages of Emotions Deluxe’ which features the new Drake remix. I’ve been a fan of Yung Bleu since hearing his song ‘Unappreciated’ back in 2018! I find his voice and tone so soothing!
The original ‘You’re Mines Still’ was one of my favourite tracks from his EP. Hearing that Drake was going to add a verse to it, I was very sceptical. I felt like the song didn’t really need any other addition. My first few listens to the remix, I was not that impressed with Drake’s added verse however having listened to the track a lot more times, I’m converted!! I actually believe this may be Drake’s best feature verses in a while. It features classic Drake quotables which he does so well. This is why I always say it is so crucial to give music time to marinate before you make a solid decision.
Part of Drake’s verse:
“But pretty taught me ugly lessons. Pretty had me givin’ more than I was gettin’, so if pretty don’t come with somethin’, well, then I dead it. Ashamed to tell my friends how much I’d do for you… ‘Cause they know that you would never do the same for me”…
Hello everyone! Hope you are all keeping safe! Today’s Music Monday entry is the new single from UK rapper Headie One featuring UK duo Young T & Bugsey! I’m sure I’ve mentioned before how Young T & Bugsey are some of the best in the UK at the moment when it comes to creating hooks and wow did they not disappoint. I’ve actually been playing this song non stop since the release last Friday! The song was also released with Headie One’s new album, “Edna”. Have a listen to the song below:
Happy Monday Everyone! Another new week and the last few days of September already! Today’s Music Monday entry is from new Nigerian sensation Tems!. Tems, a Nigerian singer, who may be known already for her song “Try Me” or her recent hit single ‘Damages’ follows up with a debut EP entitled “For Broken Ears“.
As a description and explanation of the projects Tems wrote;
“This is for anyone looking for an alternative to the darkness. This is for those who need a break from the toxicity they consume and supply on a daily basis. This is for the Rebels because they expected us to follow them but we made our own path, by the Grace of God. This is FOR BROKEN EARS”.
My favourite tracks from this EP will have to be ‘Damages’ and ‘Free Mind’. For me, Tems has a very unique voice that I feel touches on so many kind of genres; Afrobeats, Alternative R&B, Soul… it would be hard to box her into only 1. She reminds me of an African version of Koffee. Hopefully this is the beginning of more to come and it will be such a pleasure seeing her grow and shine.
Check out the video for Damages below and check out her EP which is out now.
Hello All! It’s been a while I know! Today’s post is a quick continuation of my Instagram Post. It’s a debut song called ‘DAMAGE’ from UK newcomer Nico M. Very catchy song! Looking forward to seeing where the music takes Nico! I think he has a future in the scene! The single is out now!
Check it out below and stay tuned for more posts this week!
Hey everyone, just an update on some of the latest music I’ve been listening to at the moment. Last week was a big week for music releases so stay tuned for some album reviews soon!
Chris Brown Ft Drake – No Guidance
FINALLY!!!! This collaboration has been LONG overdue!!! When I first heard the song I thought it was an old collab that had just been leaked but Chris confirmed it was new and released it. It’s nice to see that the two have sorted out their differences because I would argue that they are possibly two of the most talented artists we have at the moment. The song feels like a joint song rather than one featuring another. The end of the song when the tone changes and Drake has his verse sounds like an old school Drake vibe. Chris kept consistent energy too. I hope this is the beginning of a lot more collabs between the two.
Skepta – Gangsta Ft BBK
Skepta has finally released his new album ‘Ignorance is Bliss’ and it contains a few features. The premise of the song is focusing on people that act like they’re not. This song features some of the members of BBK. For me though, the stand out verse is from none other than Skepta’s blood brother JME. My favourite lines from him would have to be when he says “Waste of money and time, please stop (trust). You cannot buy gangster from shop, bare logos, bare designers you lot are looking like F1 drivers”. This is the idea that people equate status to the amount of labels they wear when really they look more ridiculous. Have a listen below;
CE Ft. Wavey – Drown
CE is back with another one. This time he recruits Wavey and the song is one of those songs that you would want to zone out to. It will have you singing “baby don’t tell me you’re leaving” after hearing it, trust me!
Skepta – What Do You Mean Ft. J Hus
I’ve repeated so many times that J Hus is the king of hooks! Have him on a song and it is an instant hit. Hus has the ability to give special meanings to normal words. The beat of this song was produced by IO, who has previously produced a lot of Dave songs. Someone mentioned that this song sounds very similar to 50 Cent’s song “If I Can’t” and I have noticed it ever since! Hus and Skepta bounce off eachother . As usual there are many quotables from Hus such as “You’re on the other side if you aint on my team“. A great paring.
Rotimi – Love Riddim
Rotimi is back with another slow jam for us. I love how his voice makes me feel. As a Nigerian, I hear the African influence in his music but as a r&b lover I also hear his influence from that genre. Have a listen below;
Mo Stack – Respect & Love
UK rapper Mo Stack has finally dropped his anticipated debut album. I will do a personal review on the project as a whole but this particular song has been on repeat since I first heard the album. It has such a fun vibe, I hope there is a video going to be released for it.
Tyga Ft. Chris Brown & J Balvin – Haute
Anytime Tyga and Chris Brown have a song together you already know it’s going to be a hit! This song is no different. I like the addition of who seems to be the star of features at the moment, J Balvin. I’ve always said how much I love the Spanish language in general and in songs so his addition was definitely a pleasure for the ears.
Can you believe we are already halfway through January!? Before you know it, this week will be over just as it’s beginning! I’ve made a list of 5 songs (old and new) to start off your week. Look out for more posts this week too. Enjoy!
1. Headie One Ft. Dave – 18 HUNNA (Rap)
UK rappers Headie One and Dave unite on their first collaboration to create a new song for the streets. I personally think Dave makes this song and his feature is definitely one of my favourites from him. Have a listen below.
2. Bhad Bhabie Ft Tory Lanez – Babyface Savage (Rap)
I know… I cannot believe I am suggesting a song from Bhad Bhabie either. Surprisingly, this song is hard! I was very very surprised at her flow on this track and the feature from Tory in my opinion has to be one of his best rap features. Opinions for her aside, the song is worth a listen.
3. Benny Blanco Ft. Halsey & Khalid (Dance-Pop)
I’ve been playing this song for a few days. The fuse of voices from Halsey & Khalid is just magic. The song is focused on two people falling in love and reminiscing on their memories together. I like in particular how Halsey and Khalid provide different perspectives but with the same agenda. The song starts off with Khalid singing the verse and chorus before Halsey songs her verse and chorus. The song eventually finalises with both of them singing the chorus together. This demonstrates the narrative that while they both have their own versions, the main idea is that they come together. Such a beautiful song with beautiful voices.
Check out the song below;
4. Trey Songz Ft Ty Dolla & Tory Lanez – Shootin Shots (R&B)
If you’re looking for a nice r&b melody this is the one for you. I mentioned this song on the Instagram page last week but I just want to elaborate on it. Trey Songz is arguably one of the best male r&b singers we have at the moment and this song is one of those that are pleasing to the ear.
5. Rick Ross Ft. Kanye West & Big Sean – Sanctified (Rap)
I’m sure I’ve mentioned this song in the past but I gotta mention it again! One of my favorite songs from Ricky Rozay and the features were spot on. There is no way you wouldn’t know all the words after a few listens.
I recently discovered a UK artist that goes by the name of Khalil Devonne. His new song ‘Finer Things’ isn’t on a streaming platform yet but below is the video.
The song has a nice vibe to it and the video and visuals are very fun to watch. It will have you singing “you remind me of the finer things in life” all week. I love songs that are just feel good songs with good vibes and energy.
